"Draw Me A Star" by Eric CarleThis is Megan's version of the star, she made it in art class at school. It came home in her backpack yesterday. I love finding cool-colorful art in my kids backpacks!

"MY TOOTH IS LOOSE!"
This is what Megan was singing out as she came running into the house after playing across the street with all the neighbor kids. Looks like she's going to have a toothless grin when we go out to CA this summer.
(It's the top front left tooth)

"Megan is our observant child"
As we were walking into the dace studio where Paige and Megan take ballet and tap Megan notices this poster. It is an advertisement for the photography studio that takes the photos of the kids in their recital costumes.

So Megan is checking out this poster and she says " Hey doesn't that one girl look like Paige?". Well I glance over at it and see Paige in her "Sugar Plum Fairy" costume from last year and I say "Hey Paige do you think that looks like you?". Then Paige checks it out and she says "Yes Megan that is ME!".
The funny thing was that Paige and I walked right past it. I was concerned with getting Megan changed into her tights and leotard so she would get to class on time and Paige was chatting with a dance friend. Just when I think Megan doesn't pay attention (like when I am telling her to brush and floss her teeth but she only does one not the other!) she surprises me and that makes me smile. :)

Look! My Clematis is growing even as I type. The picture above was taken on Monday 4-21-08and I took this one below today. It's amazing what sunshine and a little rain can do! It should have blooms by June.

Yesterday was dance costume day!Megan's class is doing a ballet dance and their song is "My Girl".
Paige's ballet class is dancing to a classical piece from the Disney movie "Fantasia".
Paige's tap class is doing a fun and fast piece to a song called "Trains". Her hat is a little big and needs to be taken in, I also need to press her costume. They come folded-wadded up in a plastic bag, so this is straight out of the box.

See even the rocks and Megan's stepping stone look better with when they are on top of fresh mulch.

hWhen I got home from work yesterday Mike was out front planting the Phlox that we got for the front flowerbed. It is our compromise. I wanted some Spring color and Mike wanted something low. So Phlox is it, hopefully it will be happy and spread out around the rosebushes. We still have mulch to put down along the side of the house and out back but it's getting there.
Our red tulips are done and the white ones will be blooming soon. The tulips in the front bed are pink and orange so that will be a nice burst of color in a week or so. Then the Asiatic Lilies will be up in June they are a deep burgundy.
My post for Saturday 4-19-08It's that time of year again. Time to get the mulch down, it is such a big chore but after it's done it makes the yard look so much better. The hard part is not actually spreading the mulch it is the prepping. Mike trimmed along the beds with the edger last week, and I went around and pulled the grass and weeds that were popping up and creeping in. I also raked the old mulch up away from the edges so that the new mulch would not end up in the grass.
I mulched the little bed that is at the far side of the driveway and extends back along the side of the garage on Wednesday. The photo below is a before shot.

We saved a turtle today
.

The girls had the day off of school today so we were headed off on some errands and a movie. I was driving down the road thinking about the stuff we needed to do (drop books at library, deposit check at bank etc.) and I notice something on the road but it is too late to slam the brakes on. I looked in the rear view mirror and the rock I thought I saw has a head poking up. So I turned the car around and parked on the side of the road. Luckily it is a road that is not very busy. But of course a big white Suburban was coming so I waved the driver down so she would stop. She was nice and stopped so I could rescue the little turtle out of the road. I picked him up and jumped over a muddy ditch and placed in the the sun in someones yard. Then I thought I should grab the camera and take a picture. First thing Paige said "Is that going to be your picture of the day?"

Bingo...here it is. After I saved his/her life the darn turtle refused to poke it's head back out.

Megan's new pink shoes with a little sparkle!Megan modeling her new pink sparkle shoes.
And now with a little attitude! I do believe that given a cape this girl could save the world (in her pink sparkle shoes of course).
My post for Wednesday 4-16-08

Today was a perfect day to play outside after school. I carried out the big green bucket of outside play toys. It has everything, jump ropes, bad mitten , plastic balls, bats and baseball gloves, a big colorful nylon parachute with beanbag s to match, frisby's , you name it we probably have it stuffed in that green bucket.
Paige was doing the "Skip it". Back in my day it was called a "Lemon Twist" because mine had a yellow lemon shaped ball on the end of the black ankle loop. This is the one her Aunt Shann got for her the last time we were out to CA. She was a little small for it back then but now she is a pro. Must be all those tap dancing classes.
Megan is our jump rope pro. She could not jump rope at the start of first grade this past fall. But this kid is determined and she practiced at recess with her friend Hannah. Now Megan is a pro and Hannah does not want to challenge her to jump rope contest anymore. Megan can go forward, backward, one foot, crossovers you name it this kid can jump it.

Do you ever have one of those days when you would rather snuggle up with your dog and go back to bed? Rowdy is a good sleeper, he spends about 20 hours a day sleeping. Sometimes I catch him snoring with his eyes open that is kind of freaky.
No puppy naps for me today. I just put the kids on the school bus. I need to go make my lunch to take to work. After work I will clean the yard of poop piles then start the mulching.
It is 37 at 8:30 a.m. it is supposed to get to 57 later today...67 would be better, but that won't happen until tomorrow or Thursday.

I noticed last week that the Forsythia are in bloom. They say it snows (or gets cold enough to snow) three times after the Forsythia blooms. Yesterday morning it was down in the 30's, this morning when I went out to walk the dogs at 7 it was 27 degrees. It is supposed to be about 29 degrees tomorrow morning so maybe those will be our three days and we will get it over with.
My post for Sunday 4-13-08It's our crazy Wookie dog Rebel!

My Post for Saturday April 12,2008

WE had a fire in our fireplace tonight. Hopefully the last one until next fall. The temps dropped into the 40's and it was wet and windy outside. Mike and the girls were watching "Star Wars" and me and the dogs were laying on the bean bags in front of the fire. I had some cook books from the library that I was browsing through, a rather relaxing evening.

Paige and Megan are pretty in pink for their class photos.
Class photos are today. Back in the day you would get a class photo with the school pictures that were taken at the beginning of the year. Not anymore, no you have to purchase a separate picture that is taken in the Spring. On the up side it is a cute posed shot of the entire class not little head shots and not lined up all stiff like solders. They pose with their hands on their hips, standing back to back etc. it's a fun shot taken after the class has formed a bond.

The image above was taken at 9 a.m. the image below was taken at 3:30 p.m. today. Isn't it amazing what some sunshine and 75 degree temps can do? This goes for people as well as flowers, especially after a long cold-snowy winter. ENJOY!
