I picked this book up the other day while I was at "The Home Goods" store, I couldn't put it down so I purchased it.
Here are some quotes from it:
"They need to see that you love them completely. The way they are."
"They need to take a nap with their dog."
"They need to trust, at a very early age, that home is safe."
"They need to see your face in the crowd at their soccer games and band concerts. Cheering. Not yelling."
"They need to develop a sense of adventure. The younger the better."
"They need to learn proper grammar."
"They need to watch a windmill."
"They need to find their way out of a maze."
"They need to know who they are: their full name, address, their mom and dad's full names, and phone number. (Ask them this all the time.)"
"They need to learn life is not all about them."
"They need to get along with their brothers and sisters and other kids. This will pay dividends in adulthood."
"They need to conquer their fears."
"They need manners. This will carry them far in the adult world."
"They need to learn to not keep secrets from you."
"They need to bait a hook. And take a fish off one. Learn that life is messy. Even some of the best parts."
"They need to stare into the eyes of a gorilla. Either in Africa or at a good zoo."
"They need to make a best friend. And be one."
I will post some more on another day....
And these are from me...the one's I would add to the list:
"They need to hear you say I love you, not just to them but to their mom, dad, grandparents and aunts and uncles."
"They need to be a good loser. And a good winner"
"They need to be kind to animals. All animals worms, dogs, cats, honey bees, snakes toads, birds (they all have a purpose)"
"They need to see their artwork on the fridge."
"They need to have a flashlight by their bed. They need to know that if they leave it on it won't work when the power goes out."
