Paige's Sugar Cookies

They are Paige's sugar cookies because back in December Paige while Paige was at her best friends and I was at work Mike and Megan made sugar cookies without us. It is usually a family affair. Needless to say Paige got her feelings hurt and I promised her that I would help her make some sugar cookies. So that is what we did today.

Paige is a nice big sister so she let Megan decorate a few too.

How to dress your doggies when it's
-18F. outside.

(Yes that is MINUS EIGHTEEN DEGREES F.)

Rowdy our 12 1/2 year old Rat Terrier is sporting a green and red knit sweater topped by a hand crocheted green/white sweater (that once belonged to my childhood dog Whiskey)
While the 2 year old pup, Rebel is sporting a construction worker orange quilted vest, a fake sheepskin muffler and to complete the look black (fake) sheepskin booties.

Rebel is not at all impressed with his foot gear. If he had a cartoon bubble over his head I am sure it would say "these booties bite, I am so humiliated!" Oh and Rowdy is so embarrassed by his outfit that he won't even look at the camera, even when I mention a p.t. (puppy treat).

Not to worry we are to have a high of 23 tomorrow...a heat wave!
Oh and the booties do work Rowdy's feet were barely chilled when he came in from his brief outing, sometimes you have to sacrifice your standards for comfort, which is better than sacrificing for style.

Paige is going to be a "hummer"!

Paige's ballet class character for the the Spring Recital is a Humming Bird and here is a photo of the costume.

Here is Paige's timeline that she did for school. I think it turned out real nice. We added some flowers with sparkle centers to give it a little pizazz. She did the whole thing all by her self, she even colored inthe title.

Today was the "Big Reveal" for the May dance recital.

Paige and Megan were pretty excited to find out the storyline and their characters and costumes for their dance recital in May.
The artistic director always writes an original story and this year the title

is "The Castle on Blue Hill".

This is Paige's costume for Tap. They are "love bugs" and they are tapping to "A Crazy Little Thing Called Love" the Brian Setzer version.

This is Megan's costume for Jazz they are "lightning" they don't have a song yet but Miss. Erin is working on that.

This is Megan's costume for ballet, they are "waterfalls". I don't know the name of the song but Miss. Krissy plaed it for us and it is very pretty.

On Thursday I will post Paige's costume for ballet.

"The Castle on Blue Hill"
Once upon a time in a far, far away land there was a large castle that sat on a hill covered in blue flowers. The castle was taken over by an evil sorceress named Fieesha. All of the gallant prices tried to climb the hill to try and free the castle frome the spell but they were turned into paper statues.
At the bottom of Blue Hill was a small castle where King Zattu and his daughter, Princess Jiah live. Princess Jiah's true love, Prince Daniel had tried to conquer Fieesha but had never returned. Today was a very special day. The king was throwing his daughter a lavish Birthday Ball for her 18th birthday. On this day Princess Jiah's tara would turn magical for 24 hours. Princess Jiah planned to use the magical tiara to climb Blue Hill and rid the town of Fieesha and free her true love, Prince Daniel of the evil spell.
While on her adventure up the steep and dangerous Blue Hill, Princess Jiah encounters more than one troublesome event. However she meets many new friends who try to help her out of trouble and assist her on her journey. Theire are helpful fairies from the enchanted garden, a large hoemely frog that gives her sound advice and some lively trolls who agree to help her.

So that is the story line, we think it's pretty good. A princess rescuing her prince it's about time someone got it right!

Twenty Bucks Well Spent

These furry boots kept my feet warm and dry while I shoveled our driveway and sidewalks and Linda's driveway and sidewalks this morning. Not only are they warm...but they are cute too! Gotta love that!

Happy Valentines Day to Me!

Last year Mike gave me a $100. gift card for a really nice salon that I used to go to. I stopped going there and started going to a less expensive walk in place because every time I would get a good stylist they would leave...without warning. The (expensive) place had good stylist but they would never stick around. Then I started going to a less expensive walk in place and I have had the same two people cut my hair for over a year...and it always turns out fine for a lot less cash. Oh and at the less expensive place I don't feel out of place walking in wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. The other place kind of has this uppity feel to it.
So I have had this hundred dollar gift card for almost a year, and the other day Paige says to me "Mom why does your hair look like it is three different colors?" Well it was 3 different colors because I desperately needed my hair colored. Then on Wednesday I received some coupons in the mail for the expensive salon where I had the gift card. I went on line and made an appointment and today I went in and got my hair colored.....and I love it!

Here I am before heading out this morning....

and here I am after returning this afternoon.
What do you think?
Happy Heart Day to Me!
:)

p.s. I got my eyebrows waxxed too, I think that was a major improvement.

I Survived

C.O.S.I.
On
Wheels

I drove the girls to school since I had to be there at 8:45 a.m. to learn about all the fun things we would be doing and over seeing. They started with an assembly for the entire school then starting at ten a.m. we had groups of two to three classes come in to visit the ten different stations. It was very relaxed the kids were allowed to just go check out whatever interested them and they were great about taking turns and listening to instructions.
During the morning session I over saw the the station where the kids used their own energy to turn a crank for a generator that would light either an incandescent bulb or a cfl bulb. It was fun when they would figure out that the cfl took some cranking to get lit up but then took less energy to stay lit up, plus it was a brighter light. I think some of the other parents and teachers learned a thing or two also. We have put the cfl's in our kitchen and family rooms since those lights get used the most.
In the information book that C.O.S.I. provided it said that incandescent lights use only 10% of the energy to create light the rest is turned into heat. Not the most effecent way to heat your home or light it for that matter!

Since I was volunteerring all day...I made Megan wear her "My Mom Rocks" shirt that her Aunt Shann got her.
Below Megan is using her energy to power the cfl bulb while the lady from C.O.S.I. watches.

I thought Paige may be too old to have her picture taken with mom at school so I snapped one of her and her friends, Lauren and Cara.
Below Paige is playing the "pollution scrubber" game. The kids have to grab the pollution (the black balls with the skull and crossbones) as the board gets tilted back and forth. It was a lot more difficult than it looks. This was the station I was at after the lunch break.

Today was not a snow day......but it did start snowing!
Aunt Shann, Steve, Cody and Chelsea sent her the shirt...I think it's sort of funny that they found a shirt that says "I Heart Snow Days" in California. I know they have snow in California but do they have snow days?

I don't think tomorrow will be a snow day either at least I hope not. I am scheduled to volunteer at the kids school for C.O.S.I. (Center Of Science & Industry) on wheels. The theme is "investigating energy". I will have to bring my camera along and get some shots of the action. It should be a fun day.

I just had to add this picture so Aunt Shann can see how cute Megan is in those little jeans with the sparkles on the back pockets. Ya gotta wear jewels on your butt when it's still tiny and cute (and smaller than a dinner plate) otherwise you just look silly.

The fort that Paige and Megan built on Bud and Debs stairs, just another reason why their house is much more fun than ours! I have a rule no toys on the steps, this of course is to prevent me from tripping and crashing down the stairs. Call me a party pooper but I just don't want to end up with two broken ankles and a broken elbow.

More pictures from last nights visit to the zoo. The lights were more spectacular this year than ever before, they had a lot of led lights and they did a light show to music that was really cool too.

Better Late Than Never!
Saturday was the last night of the Wildlights at the Zoo. Sadly to say the last night of the ice rink at the zoo too. I need to call and voice my disappointment at their decision to close the ice rink instead of keeping it up and open for the weekends (including the numerous 3 day weekends) in Jan. and Feb. We will still be able to skate at the Chiller but it's indoors and we have to pay for ice time. At the zoo we just take our own skates and we already have a membership to get in.

Sleep Over with Bud, Deb and Joe

Before I headed into work this morning I dropped the girls off at Bud, Deb and Joe's for a sleepover. Paige took her camera and here are some (of the better) shots she took.

is it me or does she look like a super model?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We went over to David and Jie's to have lunch, visit and have our Christmas gift exchange. Here are just a few of the photos. I will post the others on my main blog later this weekend. Think I will head off to bed after these are done. I have to get the girls up early and over to Deb and Buds tomorrow morning before I go to work. Paige and Megan are having a sleepover with them so I think Mike and I will have a "date night". Maybe we will go see a movie that does not involve talking animals!

The cousins...Brittney, Aaron, Paige and Megan.

Building Gingerbread Houses on the last day of the year!

On Tuesday the girls and I ran to Trader Joe's for some dips and snacks and the lady at the check out asked if we had ever built a gingerbread house. The girls told her that they did last year because Paige had won a kit at dance and then I got Megan one. Well the cashier said would you like to take home two kits? They were giving the kits away free to kids since they had them leftover from the holidays. The girls were thrilled to have something fun to do especially since Paige's best friend was coming over for a sleepover. The girls didn't even care that Christmas was past they just like to eat frosting and stick candy all over their gingerbread houses.
