Meet Megan's friend Elmer
Megan made this adorable purple "Elmer the Elephant" at school in art class. Notice his googly eyes and he even has a belly button. I don't know about you but this little clay elephant makes me smile!

Camp Skeeter is a hit! Here are the mementos from the first day of Camp Skeeter. The school nurse came in to talk about first aide. The plastic baggy is Megan's first aide kit, a band aide and a cotton ball. She also made a door hanger that says "Don't Bug Me!". The folks from the parks & recreation came in to talk about insects. Her favorite thing is her "S'more" pin she made out of fun foam and a white pom-pom. She pinned it on her camp hat. They make them each day of camp. Here she is below ready for day #2 , a big grin, new hairstyle and her camp hat.

Today is the first day of CAMP SKEETER!

Camp Skeeter is a pretend camp at the end of first grade. The kids do camp activities, make crafts, sing songs go on hikes and learn about nature. They wear their CAMP SKEETER shirts and make some good memories. They even get letters from home (that we have sent in). We will keep you posted on any exciting news from Camp Skeeter.

Curling Iron Versus Sponge Curlers

My post for Monday 5-26-08
I just had to post this picture of our little diva Megan. Saturday night before she went to bed I gave her a bath and put her hair up in a ponytail and put sponge rollers in her hair. Saturday I had curled her hair with the curling iron. That worked fine but it takes almost an hour to curl all of her hair. Well I thought the curlers would work since they worked so well on Paige's pony tails when she was dancing in the holiday show. The rollers were in for at least 16 hours. I sprayed the heck out of them with "Final Net" hairspray but about 25 minutes after I took them out they were already wilting. Next time we will plug in the curling irons. Now we know what works for one girls hair does not always work for the others.

But on the bright side, Megan was a good sport about the curlers, she wore them to Anderson's without fussing. Paige would not have done that.

Dress Rehearsal Day!
Paige and Megan had dress rehearsal for their dance recital down at the Southern Theatre. It pretty much ate up our entire afternoon. Paige had to be to the back stage door by 1:45. Megan and I dropped her off then we went inside to watch the rehearsal. Megan had to be at the back stage door at 3:15 . So we ran upstairs to the bathroom to change her into her costume and paint her lips red. They had a fun time. The rehearsal is kind of a pain, but it really is important for the kids (especially the first graders) so they get the feel of dancing on the big stage before the "Big Show".

This week the kids school is participating in "No Name-Calling Week". It is an annual week of educational activities aimed at ending name-calling of all kinds and providing schools with the tools and inspiration to launch an ongoing dialog about ways to eliminate bullying in their community.

They have been having school-wide theme days. Today's theme was :Caring- Put a "Lid" on Name Calling. Wear your favorite hat to school.
The first graders went on a field trip to the zoo today so Megan not only wore her hat but she also was slathered in sunscreen.
Last week in her class each student picked an animal that lives at our zoo and they did research about their animal with books from the school library. Megan chose the Sting Ray because she liked petting them when we were at Sea World last summer.

This is what's blooming in my yard today May 20, 2008

The last of the purple tulips.
The Iris look great, I think the bulb booster that I put down in early Spring did the trick.
Here is one of the tiny tulips out back that survived the bunny invasion.

The coral bells are in full bloom too, I like the way they dance in the breeze.

Yesterday evening I was in the den checking Paige's progress on her famous Ohioan report (she did her report about Judith Resnik, the first Jewish American woman astronaut who happened to die in the Challenger dissaster). Anyway's Megan came peaking around the door wearing her pink heart shaped sun glasses and this is what I captured with the camera...sneaking-peaking
giggling-laughing
"Yo-yo PEACE MAN!"
My post for Sunday 5-18-08
Megan and Claire taken 5-15-08

We had a quiet Sunday. The weather was kind of blustery. It would have been a nice day with sunshine and blue skies if the darn wind would have stopped.
I got the girls bathed by noon and at 1:30 we headed over to watch C.D.A.'s "Mini Dance Show". This was the first year that our girls were not in the mini show, since Megan is in first grade and she will be in the "Big Show" next weekend with Paige.
I am glad we went, it is only about 30 minutes long, and full of the cutest little dancers age 3 to 5 that you ever did see.
Plus we wanted to go cheer Claire on. Claire's sister Molly dances with Paige. Megan and Claire play together after their dance classes while they are waiting for Paige and Molly's classes to get done. It was a nice break for Paige in the middle of the day too, since she had some homework to do. I rushed out of the house without my camera so no pictures of Claire in her cute little dance costume. But I took the shot above just this past week. Isn't she adorable?

My Post for Saturday 5/17/08It's not a party at our house unless Rowdy is in the middle of the gift opening. It was fun seeing him act like a puppy. Something about gift bags and tissue paper make this almost 12 year old dog act like a pup again. He was having a blast and the girls were getting a kick out of his antics. Crazy dog Rebel was in his dog crate so that is why he is not in the pictures. He gets a little carried away and actually tries to eat ALL of the tissue paper, this is not a good thing at 4 a.m. when his tummy is sure to give him fits.

My post for Friday 5-16-08

Sorry these post are a bit late...it was a busy party filled weekend. Friday was non-stop.
I picked Paige, Megan and Sydney up after school. Came home and got Megan ready to go to her friend's (Meghan H.) birthday-dance-sleepover party. After Brittany and Lauren were dropped off at our house we left to go to C.P.K. (California Pizza Kitchen). We stopped to pick up Olivia on the way since her house is over in that direction. It really was a fun night and Paige has really sweet friends.

Here they are at C.P.K. around the table from the left...Olivia, Paige, Brittany, Lauren and Sydney. I gave them little canvas totes from the dollar spot at Target to decorate with fabric markers. Let me tell you this...when kids are being creative they are quiet!
After dinner we met Mike at the movie theater across the parking lot. I had purchased the tickets for the opening night of "Narnia- Price Caspian" earlier in the week. Mike got there early to save our seats. When we got back to the car I gave the kids some snack size Hershey's , M&M's, and Skittles to put in their tote bags. They also had glow bracelets. It was easy to keep track of all the glowing girls. By the way if you ever have a glow bracelet break (like Paige did in the middle of the movie) just put some hand sanitizer on it and it disappears. She had it on her hands and shirt and the alcohol in the hand sanitizer made it vanish.
By the way the movie was great...action packed, great story, and the mouse stole the show!

When we got home we had "Coldstone Creamery Cookie Dough Delirium" ice cream cake. Paige opened her gifts and Mike took the telescope out on the front walkway so the girls could look at the moon up close. Paige was the only one who had ever seen the moon through a telescope so that was fun to share with them. Before lights out the girls made paper bead necklaces from a Martha Stewart kit that I got at Michaels with a 50% off coupon. It was fun and I think it calmed them down a bit before bed. Here they are ready to sack out. I think it was close to one a.m. before they were asleep, and would you believe they were all awake at 7:15 a.m.
Paige and Megan were in bed by 8 p.m. Sat. night....and I was not far behind them!

The topic of the day is.... BENGAL TIGERS!

With Paige's birthday being this week I have not had a chance to post this picture that I took of Paige Monday night.
After dinner she set up her "story board" for her Bengal tiger presentation. She lugged this home (luckily it folds close) on the school bus Monday. She did all the work (research and construction) for this project at school in her SOAR reading class. SOAR is the name they have for the gifted program that they have at her school. Paige is in SOAR for both reading and math.

It was fun listening to all the fun and interesting facts that she learned about the Bengal Tiger. You probably know that Bengals are great swimmers and enjoy the water but did you know that they eat frogs? Well now you do!
Paige also made a power point on the Bengal tiger and we have a copy of it on disc. She has quite a collection of power points that she has done at school. She had done them on tornado's, penguins, and dolphins.

A fun little gift handmade by mom is always nice.

Don't forget you can double click on the photos to enlarge.
I whipped this little handbag/box up for Paige's birthday yesterday. Really I made it yesterday! I didn't mean to wait until the last minute but I kept putting it off because I was not sure what colors or papers I wanted to use. I ended up using this paper that I had in a kit and it worked perfectly. It is a nice blend of blues, greens, orange, peach and a hint of pink. It is not too bright and not too pale. Plus Paige really likes it a lot and that's what matters the most.
This is the back side. I told Paige it would be a good place to store her "Bella Sara" horse trading cards. I may make her some matching little tins that she can put inside to place the cards in. She could keep her "Webkinz" trading cards in it too.
This is the right side....
and this it the left side. I hope I didn't get carried away with the glitter and sparkle.
Here is the top view. It says Imagine under all that frilly ribbon. I loved those rub ons that I used, they were just the ticket. The new rub on tool that my sister got me worked great..no more popsicle sticks for me.
P.S. could you tell that I had a "glue explosion" in the middle of making this project? I was squeezing out the glue to put the pink paper on the top of the lid when the stopper top popped out of the glue bottle and a huge glob of glue landed on the front blue paper. Luckily I got it off with hardly any bad effects. I did have to add a few punched paper flowers to cover a few spots but that will be our little secret! With the placement of a few little decorations the disaster was diverted. Now if we could just fix all the problems of the world with glitter and paper flowers that would be a blessing.

Happy 10th Birthday Paige MargueriteLast night before Paige went to bed she wanted to know what time she was born. I knew it was after 1 p.m. but I couldn't remember the exact time. So we got the big box of her baby stuff out of her closet. It turns out she was born at 1:10p.m.
We had fun looking at her newborn pictures. She was born with a pout, her little lips were sticking out. She was a very pretty baby, lots of hair (duh) and big round eyes (duh) and the sweetest little mouth.
When I woke her up this morning singing "happy birthday" she informed me that she won't be 10 until 1:10 p.m., but she said I could keep singing.
