My Post for Thursday 1-03-08Paige doing a little reading over winter break. She is reading "Space Dogs" for her Reado. Reado is like a bingo card and it has different types of literature in each box. The kids in her class have to complete two rows in each 9 week grading period. This gets the kids to expand their subject matter. Otherwise Paige would be happy to just read about dogs, horses and fairies. The headings are Biography/Autobiography, Nonfiction, Award Winner, Fiction and Miscellaneous.
Luckily Paige loves to read and doesn't seem to mind reading on subjects other then the usual animal or fairy books. I do try to help her pick out books that will keep her interest, such as "Space Dogs". I don't think she would choose science fiction as her favorite type of literature.
She is also planning to read "A Little Princess" for her classic. It is by the same author that wrote "The Secret Garden", Paige read that last year. For the diary or journal she is going to read "Farewell to Manzanar". It is a memoir of a young Japanese American girl that was an internee at Manzanar during World War Two. Then for her any person she is reading a "National Geographic" book "Anne Frank the young writer who told the world her story". I think it is a pretty impressive reading list for a 9 year old.
