The Pepto Pink is gone!

Here is a sneak peak at Paige's new old room! Back in May we promised we would paint her bedroom for her birthday...well we got the paint in July and today (8-30-09) we got around to painting her room.

She LOVES it!

My post for Saturday, August 29, 2009

The Answer from yesterdays pop quiz is:

A 15 foot canoe!

Here we all are enjoying our first outing in our canoe over at Twin Lakes. Paige and Megan loved being paddled around, they had their binoculars so they could check out the heron's, ducks and geese.

Guess what we bought tonight?
No it was not Guitar Hero!

My post for Thursday, 8-27-09
Since I did not take any pictures today I am going to post these from our Kentucky vacation. As we were driving to the gas station I called my dad to make sure he had received his belated b.day gift. Then I looked over and saw this...and I said "Dad there is a mail Jeep and it totally reminds me of you, I will post a picture of it on my blog and when you see it you will know why it reminds me of you".

So here it is...do you know why it reminds me of my dad? No it is not the color pink...our (his) Jeep is a manly mint green. It reminds me of my dad becasue of the big fan rigged on top, the kind of fan you would use to vent a garage, yep looks like something my dad would rig up and it makes me smile :)

First Day Of School for 2009-2010

Paige is ready for 6th grade!

Paige woke up at 6:05 a.m. to a Taylor Swift song...so she was all smiles this morning. It was still dark and when she turned the light on in the hall bath Rebel started growling, he was still in his dog bed in our room. Paige washed her face and got dressed then I helped her with her hair. She had a good breakfast of yogurt and and English muffin. She was very patient with me when I asked to take her picture. Then it was out the door to wait with her friends for the bus. I think she was sitting with her new friend Lauren. I was outside with the dogs they (the dogs) were my excuse for hanging out until the bus came, most of the other parents were in their cars. Paige waved to me as the bus drove by....(she loves me). I'm sure she will have a wonderful first day of 6th grade...my big middle school girl.

Megan our 3rd grader!

Yes Megan is wearing the same top as Paige. I tried to talk her into wearing her cute purple dress but she said she would wear that tomorrow. Then she wanted to wear a tank top and jean shorts but I vetoed that. I told her to wear something cuter for her back to school picture ...so she asked if she could wear the same thing as Paige. I said sure...since you are not getting on the same bus and going to the same school. She wouldn't wear her cute little gold flats instead she wanted to wear her "Wizzards of Waverly Place" (it's a Disney show) tie shoes. She let me curl her hair under and she chose a cute black sparkley headband (it matches the shoes). At breakfast we were asking her if she remembers where her classroom is and what her teachers name is. It's funny to us at least because she has the same classroom and teacher as last year because her 2nd grade teacher moved up to 3rd grade this year. Megan is the only student from last year to get back in the class, so she will be the extra special helper.

My post for Tuesday, 8-25-09
Both Paige and Megan went back to tap dance class tonight...and I brought two cameras and guess how many pictures I took? ZERO! We kinda got sidetracked chatting and catching up with old dance friends. So you get a picture of one of our orange zinnias and a bee, if you click on the photo you can see the bee better.

My post for Monday 8-24-09

Today was "open house" at the elementry school. Megan is in Mrs. Harden's third grade class this year...not to be confused with Mrs. Harden's second grade class last year! You see Mrs. Harden moved up to teach 3rd grade this year and Megan lucked out and is the only student to get to return to her class this year. We are all thrilled, because Megan loves Mrs. Harden and Mrs. Harden adores Megan...and I am thrilled because I already know how she runs her classroom and that will make my life easier!

Late August means Zinnia's in bloom and back to school shopping.

My post for Saturday 8/22/09

While I was at work Mike spent the afternoon fishing until it started raining on him. The girls were with Deb and Bud they all went camping on Friday afternoon at Deer Creek State Park.
We picked the girls up on our way to Dave's for his belated birthday party.

This is the only t-shirt that we bought on our vacation. We don't really buy t-shirts on vacation just magnets for the fridge. We got Dave this shirt when we went to Gander Mountain, it was just down the street from our hotel.
It reads "Man Law: Friends don't let friends fish alone! Good Call"

Paige and Megan were pretty worn out from their overnight tent camping with Deb and Bud. They spent most of their time playing with Megan's Nintendo DS with their cousin Aaron.
My post for Friday 8-21-09

We came home to tons of tomatoes and a few peppers ready to be harvested.
My post for Thursday 8-20-09...I didn't take any pictures on our ride home today. Paige slept for about 3 hours while Megan played her Nintendo DS and did some reading. We stopped at Deb and Buds to pick Rowdy and Rebel up on the way home. We were missing our pups.

So in their honor I will post pictures from our dinner out the night before at "Double Dogs". It was a family friendly sports bar with a dog theme. The kids meals are served in metal dog dishes.

Megan riding Poco

The day before we headed home we went on a two hour horseback ride in the Mammoth National Park. Before we left on vacation I had found the number for J and J Stables on a web site for cabin rentals. I called them up to see about their trips and prices and was amazed to find out that they had 2 hour rides for twenty five bucks a person. I was hopeful but a little skeptical too. I thought what kind of half dead horses are we gonna ride for that low price? Well lucky for us the horses were happy and healthy, the cowboy was missing a few teeth but he was nice and friendly and took care of Megan as if she were his own. It was the best horse riding I have done that did not involve Cowboy Bill's horses. We actually got to ride and trot our horses and even did a little "off trail riding" when we came to a place where there was a tree down across the trail. Megan did an awesome job, it was her first time alone on a horse. Cowboy Nick had her horses lead rope tied to his saddle. He told her she could try riding by herself on the way back but she was happy just to be on "the tow rope". Paige of course looked like the little pro that she is after her riding lessons last year.

Paige riding Jasper and Mike is behind her on Larry the horse.

We stayed at a real nice La Quinta Inn, it was just built last fall. It was all non-smoking (which is hard to find when you go South). It had a nice little indoor pool which the kids loved. Most afternoons we had the place to ourselves to they thought they had their own private pool.

Megan, Paige and Mike in Diamond Cavern

On our third day in the Mammoth Cave area we went to Diamond Caverns. Terry and Steve and their kids were there earlier in the month and told us to stop there. Diamond Caverns is a wet cave, meaning that the almost constant water droplets help build more interesting formations of stalagmites and stalactites. One of the things we learned on our trip was how to remember which one grows from the ceiling and which from the floor. Stalactites grow down from the ceiling because they hang "tite" to the ceiling.

My post for Sunday 8-16-09 day two of our family vacation to Mammoth Cave

We had to get up early (before 8 a.m.) to get dressed and eat breakfast so we could make it to Mammoth Cave for our 11:30 departure time for the "New Entrance" tour. It was pretty cool not only is the inside of the cave about 55 degrees year round but the tour we took "The New Entrance Tour" was really cool. We took a bus ride over to the "New Entrance" witch was blasted out in the 1930's. We had to go through an "air lock" to enter the cave. We went through a large metal door in groups of 25, down a metal staircase and through another large metal door. Mike said it was like an episode of "Lost" the park rangers would send a group down and they would disappear. Once inside the cave we descended narrow metal stairs down though the shafts of the cave. We could look down the sides and sometimes see the people below us and sometimes just see down into pitch black holes. We walked across grating like cat walks...with handrails of course. It was very impressive. Up until 1968 they had wooden stairs...I can only imagine how treacherous that must have been. In the early 90's they replaced the steps with the nice new metal ones. I am in awe of the workers that replaced the steps, I hope they were paid well.
Unfortunately we do not have any photos (except for a few on our phones) of that trip into the cave. We read the sign outside the building that said NO Camera cases and thought that they did not want us to take our cameras into the cave. Then as we were about to depart we learned (too late) that we could take cameras but not any bags or cases. I didn't have any deep secure pockets so I'm not sure what I would have done with a camera while walking down all those stairs.
Later in the day after we returned from the first hike we took a self guided tour into the "Historic Entrance" with our camera, but the pictures were not that great. Here are the stairs leading down to the mouth of the cave. It was in the low 90's and as we neared the mouth of the cave it felt like someone had turned the A. C. on. We could feel the 55 degree air blowing up out of the cave and it was quite refreshing.

My post for Saturday, August 15, 2009.....The first day of our little family vacation to see all the cool caves in and around Bowling Green, Kentucky. Paige and Megan were pretty excited to go to "The Lost River Cave", where we took a boat ride into a cave. After we purchased our tickets in the gift shop we convinced them to try on these cute mining helmets for a photo shoot.
Above we have the "posed shot" and below we have the "real sisters shot"...just keeping it "Reil"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNT DEB!
My post for Wednesday, 8-13-09 Happy Birthday Uncle Dave and Uncle Bob

Caught in the act!
Rebel thinks he's a cat or he has cat like tendencies . He likes stepping up onto the rock wall to check for bird seed in the bird feeder. Mike must have caught him in the act when he snapped this photo, Rebel is looking a little guilty.

Two for Tuesday!
Since it was our anniversary last night the girls thought it was a perfect occasion to wear their new dresses that we bought last week while doing some "back to school" shopping. They paired them with leggings and flats (it's the style). The leggings are especially nice when you are sitting in an over air conditioned restaurant or in a chilly movie theater.
When I was loading the pictures onto the computer this morning I was a little surprised to see how grown up our girls are looking. I really try my best to keep them dressing like little girls but all of a sudden they look so tall and grown up. Maybe it's the shorter hair on Paige or the big girl flats (they have been living in crocs and flip flops) but they do look a little older all of a sudden.

PERSPECTIVE
Perspective, in context of vision and visual perception, is the way in which objects appear to the eye based on their spatial attributes, or their dimensions and the position of the eye relative to the objects. There are two main meanings of the term: linear perspective and aerial perspective. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perspective_(visual)

I snapped this picture of them sitting on a large deep chaise lounge in the lobby of Molly Woo's and they look so petite.
That is when I realized no matter what kind of shoes or length of hair they are still our little girls.
It's all in the perspective!

My post for Monday, August 10, 2009...our 13th wedding anniversary.

"Cheers to many more happy & healthy years together"

Mike and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary tonight by going out to dinner with Paige and Megan. We went to Molly Woo's and had some amazing Asian food. The kids and Mike were ordered "firecracker chicken" and "honey chicken". Then I ordered some Mandarin Orange beef and the spicy sesame green beans. The beef was a big hit (and new favorite) at our table. It's fun to see the girls try new foods and to use their chopsticks like pros. Our server brought us over a mini bottle of champagne to toast our anniversary. That was very sweet of him, plus the strawberries on the rims of the glasses was a nice touch too.
(The photo credit goes to Paige)

After dinner we stopped by home to drop off our leftovers and then we went to see "Night At The Museum Battle of the Smithsonian" at the dollar movies. It was a fun action packed movie with lots of good humor. We were all laughing out loud :)
My post for Sunday 8-09-09 These photos are from Saturday, August 8th. We went to Miss. Cristee's baby shower that a couple of neighbor's put together. We all met at J'Liu's and had a nice lunchon. The kids had fun dressing up and having lunch with their friends.
If you want to see the paint can and clipboard that I decorated for Cristee and Brents baby please go to my scrap blog.

This is why I didn't take any photos today (8-09-09)........
We had a slow lazy morning then after lunch I took the girls up to the water park even though I knew it would be super crowded. It was over 90 degrees, but the kids were begging to go. We got there around 3:30 and stayed til 8 (when they closed). We ran into some of our neighbors from the cul de sac so the kids had friends to swim with. By 6:30 the crowds were thinning out and the girls went on all of the tube slides together plus they rode the dolphin dash twice (it's a big wavy slide that you ride down headfirst on a toboggan style mat there are 8 lanes..so it is sort of like a race). We had a fun time and it was nice to cool off on a hot day. We haven't had that many hot days over 90 this summer so it was fun to splash in the water and have it feel refreshing instead of shocking.

Happy 93rd Birthday to my Grandma Marguerite Esther Baker Reil Souza. She's the woman I aspire to be. In her hey day she baked the best pies (my fave is banana cream), she hunted and fished (while wearing red nail polish), she drove to Alaska by herself in a big white Ford pick up with a camper that had purple and turqoise blue interior (back in the early 70's), she broke her leg in her 50's riding a dirt bike, she has grown every type of flower and vegetable known to man (she's a genius in the garden). She has an incredible memory and she has lived a rich full life. She has taught me so much about living life! Sometimes I wonder if my memory is good because I inherited it from her, or if my memory is good because I have great times to remember!

Don't ya just love baby feet?

We only had to watch Jake and Evan for a few hours today while Jamie ran some errands. When we went over Jamie told us that Evan discovered his toes yesterday and sure enough they were a big entertainment today too!

My Post for Thursday, 8-06-09

Paige and Megan had their hair trimmed up today. Paige wanted her hair a little shorter and Megan's bob needed cleaning up. Miss. Melinda used the flat iron on Paige's hair to make it super straight. Paige really liked the look and feel of her hair but she also said she likes to wear it wavy too. The new length is very flattering and it will be easier for her to keep it looking nice when school starts.

To be honest I took this picture yesterday....but I'm posting it today...as long as I post at least one picture a day...it still counts. So this is the (kinda dark) picture of Lauren (our new neighbor), Megan, Paige and Joe Boxer. We had to run over and take Joe out for Deb and the girls wanted Lauren to meet Joe so we invited her along. Lauren and Paige will both be in 6th grade this year (Lauren will be 11 on 8-24). She's a real sweet kid and she reminds me so much of my niece I keep wanting to call her Chelsea.

My new favorite (handmade) oh so comfortable bracelet that my sister gave me for my birthday!

Oh my, they grow up so fast!

We have been taking care of Jake and Evan about once or twice a week now since early July. Evan will be 4 months old on 8-14.Today I just noticed how big he has grown , when I had Paige hold him while I was making his bottle. He takes up her entire lap now. He is also rolling over on his tummy every time you lay him down. He giggles and laughs when we make silly faces and crazy sounds. He's at that cute age when everything is silly and new.

My Post for Saturday, August 1, 2009

IT' A TWO FOR:

Yesterday was the annual neighborhood charity softball tournament. I had to work from 8 to 2 so I missed the first half. The kids got up early (6:30 a.m.) to get dressed, sprayed with sunscreen and eat before they headed over to the park with Mike by 8.
When I got to the softball fields at 2:30 Mike's team was still winning. I took Paige with me to go let our dogs and our neighbor's dogs out. Then we were back to the ball field. We watched Mikes team play their last game and then I took the girls home a little after 6. They ate and changed into their swimsuits because the pool was having a free swim party for the softball players and their family's. So the kids were swimming, going down the slide and jumping off the diving board from about 7 . p.m to 10
p.m .

THAT IS WHY THEY ARE STILL SLEEPING AT 10:24 THIS MORNING!
