My post for Sunday, September 6th, 2009
You know that every good camping trip has a story...well here is ours. On Saturday afternoon I got off of work 2 hours early...I was thrilled...thinking we would get packed and on the road for our first family camping trip a few hours earlier than planned. We had decided it would be best to take both the Explorer and the mini van since we had camping gear for 4 people and two dogs plus the fishing gear, life vest , paddles and canoe. Well we got on the road by 5 (about an hour later than I had hoped, but that's the way it always goes). Then about half way to our destination Mike pulled into a rest stop to check the tie down straps on the canoe. Well guess what? Our 1998 Explorer would not restart, at first we were hoping it was the battery, since Mike rides his motorcycle to work and the Explorer sits for a few days at a time. Well no such luck...our fuel pump died. So while Mike was making towing arrangements I was moving all the gear (tent, sleeping bags, fishing gear etc.) along with Megan and Rowdy into the mini van. Then we managed to secure the canoe to the roof rack of the mine van and by 9 p.m. we were on our way to the AEP Campgrounds, with a quick stop at Wendy's for a LATE dinner at 10:15 p.m. We finally found a campsite around 11:45 and by midnight we had our tent up and everyone in bed.
The rest of the weekend went a whole lot better...and when we returned home on Monday we packed the car a little better too.
Oh and I caught the biggest fish on Sunday!
